Greetings
The Purpose of the Jesus Project is to address the misuse of God’s Name in the Media.
In a recent news article both Ster Kinekor and Nu Metro accepted in principle to add a special warning (classification):
in cinema theatres all around South Africa
A symbol D for Divinity
A warning at the ticket office
No warning in the press or elsewhere
Informative to allow viewers to make their own decision
D indicates the use of God's name once or more than once in a production. This symbol warning does not intend to judge but is only used as an indication like V for Violence does not judge the violence itself. We know in practice that this use of God's name probable means a misuse, and that followers of God should decide on their own if they want to be in a place where the name of the Lord is misused. The Jesus project does not play on the conscience of people but only wants to give information before hand.
The implementation of this process will take some time and certain logistics should still be worked out.
In the meanwhile a senior film critic agreed to supply information regarding the use of Gods name in films. He will supply the following:
If Gods name is used and the frequency.
Sometimes the use is contextually understandable (motivated) and the film might, despite the misuse, still give a positive message.
We should still make our own decision.
The list of most recent movies’ D-rating will be updated on a regular basis and is obtainable from Rev Jannie Pelser (see Contact Info).
Love in Jesus
